Garage Conversion & ‘Link’ Extension
Our client wanted to make use of an existing detached garage to provide a more practical kitchen with greater levels of natural light and better connection to their extensive garden. The existing kitchen was a disappointment in an otherwise spectacular property sitting in a prominent position within the Duffield Conservation Area.
A new roof structure was proposed to create a vaulted ceiling to provide a generous volume filled with natural light.
A sensitive approach was adopted to allow the house to retain prominence.
The kitchen is linked to the house with an ashlar clad and generously glazed element with an outlook to a previously under-appreciated courtyard. The 'link' incorporates subtle steps to negotiate the level difference between the house and converted garage.
